On 17 October, as part of the Triple-C project, ACMG organised a day on climate change (and more specifically on the risk of frost), its impacts and solutions.
The day was held in partnership with GIS Fruits, which brings together numerous actors in fruit production, INRAE and the Quae publishing house. The event took place in the heart of the Moyenne-Garonne, at the Rex cinema in Tonneins (47), and was attended by stakeholders from numerous departments.
Around 100 people attended. The objective of inviting a varied audience, technical as well as scientific and political, was achieved: decision-makers, as well as numerous leaders of agricultural cooperatives, farm managers, farmers, researchers, agricultural technicians, representatives of research centres, agricultural consultants, representatives of chambers of agriculture, etc. were present.
The afternoon programme was based on lectures on the risks and solutions to climate change, as well as numerous testimonies. During the conference, the Triple C project platform was presented.

2 round tables allowed to gather:

Key field experiences for successful adaptation.

Visions for the future of fruit production.

The sixth fact-finding mission of the Triple-C project was organised by the Technological University of the Shannon: Midwest (TUS) on 22-23 March in Thurles.

Due to the improvement that is being reflected in relation to COVID19, and consequently in the relaxation of health regulations, the meeting could be held in person for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

In addition to the Triple-C project consortium partners, a number of speakers were invited to enrich the meeting by sharing their experiences and expertise in relation to “Sustainability in a Changing Climate”, the central objective of the meeting.

The workshop, led by Darren Barry from TUS, started with a welcome by Padraic O’Reilly, Development maanger at TUS, to all participants in the meeting.

Diego Diaz (DEX Group) then gave a presentation on the objectives and guidelines of the Triple-C project. After his presentation, and as reflected in the agenda of the meeting, a series of presentations related to the objective of the meeting were made, allowing to share the results obtained in other projects.

In addition, each talk was followed by a lively debate between the different speakers and the members of the Triple-C project.

At 12:30 the meeting was brought to a close, and after a short lunch, the whole group headed off by bus to the TUS scheduled visit: Cabragh Wetlands & Rock of Cashel.

The Cabragh Wetlands Trust is an Irish environmental treasure that remains relatively free from human interference. It is home to the green-listed grey heron and feeding ground for the dwindling population of native bumblebees. Within its boundaries grow species of flora such as bronze fennel, wavy bittercress, shepherds’ purse, golden saxifrage, common mouse-ear, marsh strawberry and a huge variety of wild orchids. Various species of wildlife can also be seen, including numerous varieties of dragon fly, the rare hummingbird moth, Froghopper’s cuckoo, stick ear and a wide variety of sedges, grasses and reeds. The group enjoyed a frankly interesting tour guided by a local “druid”.

Rock of Cashel: or safety reasons, due to a week of high winds in the area, TUS decided to change the scheduled visit and head for Cahir Castle. However, from the bus we were able to enjoy the iconic scenery provided by the Rock of Cashel, arguably Ireland’s most impressive collection of medieval buildings. After a short drive, the project partnership enjoyed a very interesting visit to Cahir Castle, one of the largest castles in Ireland.

Water is the life source of our planet and therefore it must be at the heart of policies and projects mitigating the effects of climate change, and building a society that is better prepared for its consequences. We know that the impacts of the climate crisis will be felt first and most dramatically through the effects on water resources. Changing rainfall patterns and increasing temperatures will result in more floods, more droughts and greater vulnerability to pollution.

For this reason, on March 16 and 17, we will analyze climate change, one of the most urgent problems of our time, at the Rivers Trust Conference 2021, which will be held online this year.

Organized by the Dordogne Chamber of Agriculture, partner of the TRIPLE-C Project, cofinanced by the INTERREG Atlantic Area...

Organized by the Dordogne Chamber of Agriculture, partner of the TRIPLE-C Project, cofinanced by the INTERREG Atlantic Area Programme. Triple-C project is focused on the analysis, evaluation and capitalization of successful EU projects on the prevention and management of risks deriving from climate change, aiming at disseminating and transferring the best practices and results identified into policy making.

“Soil is the very basis for the food we grow as well as for the production of feed, textiles, wood and other materials. It provides us with clean water, hosts biodiversity, recycles nutrients, regulates climate and is part of our landscapes and cultural heritage. Soil is important for our well-being and the balance of ecosystems in our planet.” [CAP specific objective: Efficient soil management. European Commission]

The goal of this online networking workshop “Agricultural Soil Quality & Water Management” is to share best practices of projects identified at the European level that can serve as models for different countries in order to face the challenges of the soil management & water management.

The five projects to be presented within the session are dedicated to improving soil or water management, or increasing knowledge about them. Both are key components of healthy ecosystems and in the economy of local communities.

In this sense, the workshop will allow the capitalization of the main results of these projects, the exchange of good practices and experiences, the identification of barriers and possible solutions and, finally, the emission of recommendations based on the information obtained. It is also intended to ensure maximum visibility of the products, methodologies, activities and results of projects at European level.

An initial presentation on TRIPLE-C will be provided by Laurence Couldrick from the Westcountry Rivers Trust, as representative of the TRIPLE-C project.

For any questions you may have about the conference, please contact us at diego@grupodex.com

The third Research Mission of Triple-C project was hosted by NEIKER-Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development on...

The third Research Mission of Triple-C project was hosted by NEIKER-Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development on 26th June in Arkaute (Basque Country, Spain). Due to the situation caused by the pandemic, the meeting was held virtually open to speakers and attendees from various European countries.

The goals of this online networking workshop “Agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry to face climate change” were to share best practices of projects identified at the European level that can serve as models for different countries in order to face the challenges of the agricultural and forestry sectors due to climate change.

The workshop, conducted by Jonas Coppen of DEX, started with the welcome of Carlos Garbisu, Chief Scientific Officer of Neiker, with a setting in context of what the risks associated with climate change may entail for agriculture and forestry, but also of the opportunities that these sectors represent to face climate change risks.

An initial presentation on climate change and TRIPLE-C goals actual situation was provided by Jean François Berthoumieu from the Association Climatologique de la Moyenne Garonne (A.C.M.G) as coordinator of the INTERREG TRIPLE-C project.

The six projects presented in the network aim to develop knowledge that is useful for the different sectors in which they work. But above all, their objective was to implement management practices that were tested in pilot cases and in which stakeholders have participated to achieve innovative solutions at the local level. In addition, a specific presentation was made on Regional climate change scenarios informing impacts and adaptation, so that the attendants could have a clearer vision of future prospects in relation to models of climate change.

In this sense, the workshop has allowed sharing results from the projects, in particular, good practices and experiences, identifying barriers and possible solutions and the formulation of recommendations at the European level. In addition, there was a live debate between speakers and attendees using the chat enabled in the Teams platform, and there was a notable interest among the different participants to establish future relationships to carry out work in this area.

Day: October 1 and 2

Place: Coimbra – Portugal

The 2nd coordination meeting of the Project TRIPLE-C was hosted by University of Coimbra, last 1st and 2nd October. The organization was made in collaboration with its research centers: MARE (Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre), a group related with sea research, and ADAI (Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics) a group related with forest fire research.

The first day started with a visit to the Laboratory for Forest Fire Studies (LEIF), from ADAI, located in Lousã, about 30km from Coimbra, where the most laboratory work and training actions are developed. The partners had the opportunity to look at the forest fire research and learn more about the activities developed by ADAI: fire behaviour, wildland urban interface, fire safety and other studies.

After the visit, the partners went to Laboratory of Industrial Aerodynamics in Coimbra, where the meeting was held. The steering committee had discussed the progress of the project, addressed the implementation of activities and had the opportunity to discuss and plan the methodology of coming activities in the project work plan. (photos below)

On the second day, partners attended the seminar in the Auditorium of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, open to general public. The Seminar “Capitalization of European Research Projects in the Area of Climate Change” was held in the context of the Interreg Project “Triple-C – Capitalising Climate Change Projects in Risk Management for a better Atlantic Area Resilience”. The seminar started with a presentation of TRIPLE-C project and had the participation of several representatives of Portuguese public and private entities that are potential end users of the results of the research projects that were presented (c.f. program and photos below).

The TRIPLE-C Project (website address), which has support by the Interreg – Atlantic Area, was conceived as a capitalization initiative focused on analysing, evaluating and exploiting the best EU projects in risk management in the context of climate change. It aims to disseminate and transfer the best practices and results identified in this domain, with the goal of integrating policy formulation.
